The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson Thirty-Seven: by turtle
Biblical concepts are sometimes hard to understand. Yet when the concept is grasped then one need not to worry about them as far as understanding only application there of. Jesus goes and prays in the next portion of scripture and one might ask where is that in the Old Testament God needs to talk to God’s Son or vise a versa. Pray means supplication in the Greek. Let us first go to Matthew and see what the verse is I am speaking about.
Matthew 14:23 KJV (23) And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.
If we understand that God talks to His Son and is fully two different people in physical since this concept is easy, however if you are looking from the oneness of God point of view you land up confused. The best portion of scripture to use is Psalms
Psalms 110:1 KJV (1) A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Psalms 2:7 KJV (7) I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
Supplication means to worship. Of course we know God adores His Son and the Son adores the Father. However it is more then that. Jesus takes time to be alone in perfect humility. Nothing wrong with taking time alone in humility. However God did do this.
Genesis 2:1-3 KJV (1) Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. (2) And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. (3) And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
God rested and also blessed His work, He not only admired but sanctified it. He took time to adore His work. Do we not when we make something take time to look and admire it. It is as if God looked back and seen all the work He had down and said be fruitful. Chapter two is look back from chapter one of Genesis.
I was thinking about Lot’s wife the other day and how her one mistake was looking back. Sometimes looking back can be mistake and sometimes it heals and sometimes it can leave a wound that will not heal. I step on tack the other day that gotten beneath a little mat I had on the floor. The tack left a wound in my heel. Some people leave small wounds not by any fault of their own. How Lot’s wife looks back when she was warned not too. She was told not to look back at sin city and she did. Then their is Peter who steps out on the waves and after doing so think better of it. The waves were strong and rolling. The fierceness of the storm that night. Yet Jesus had told Peter to go ahead and step out on the waves. Yet Peter began to sink because His eyes got off Jesus. Lot and His wife were good people but those around him were not. They desired to consume Lot’s family like vultures. And yet because of Lot’s faith, God sent angels to rescue them out. However the wife looked back and was turned to a pillar of salt.
Let look at Matthew again and read about the storm.
Matthew 14:24-32 KJV (24) But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. (25) And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. (26) And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. (27) But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. (28) And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. (29) And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. (30) But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. (31) And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? (32) And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
Jesus tells Peter he has little faith, however it is obvious Peter knew who could save Him. Lot’s wife will she perhaps knew God but did not know how to obey or desired sin city more then God. Peter seen the rolling waves of the sea and decided He did want any part of that. Destruction laid ahead if he kept looking at those waves. Peter says I am looking to Jesus. After Jesus and said come on. Jesus says go into the sea meaning the world that what He means for you to do, however one better keep their eyes focused on Jesus. If you get focus on the waves their may not be any redemption for you.
The vessel that Peter and the other disciples were on was a ship, it was not one of their small fishing boats. No doubt there were other passengers and when the sea calmed, and they landed on shore it took no time for word to spread about Jesus. In fact they began to tell everyone. Everyone came seeking healing.
Matthew 14:33-36 KJV (33) Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God. (34) And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret. (35) And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased; (36) And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.
Yes there were some in Jesus day that believed He was the Messiah before He was crucified. The reason was He healed the lame and the sick, worked miracles of all kinds. Who is Jesus to you. Is He the Son of God? Will you follow Him today? Your choice be like Peter or be like Lot’s wife.
