The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson Sixty-Six: by turtle
Last week in the yield to talk about gall and vinegar, and the walking dead, I seem to have overlooked something even more important and though not much is said concerning Christ being put on the cross in Matthew, but about His stay on the cross, something spiritually is happening. And so to backtrack for just a moment in Matthew 27 and then moving forward into Matthew 28, I think you will understand I did not so much forget but it aligns itself with the beginning of the New covenant of Christ reign in Heaven and in Earth.
Matthew 27:35-36 KJV (35) And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. (36) And sitting down they watched him there;
This chapter does not talk about the nails or the fact Jesus is the key or that He holds the key to heaven, but for a minute if one can understand that their were symbolism in the cross to what was taking place including prophetically one can grasp the meaning of the cross in away yet not normally discussed through preaching. The fact is these words came back to those around while Christ hung on the cross.
Matthew 27:40 KJV (40) And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Christ body would have to die for the temple to be rebuilt. The temple of God in the body of Christ Jesus would be rebuilt into incorruptible body like ours will be one day. All symbolic to the end and beginning of God new covenant with man. Let me explain using this Old Testament passage.
Isaiah 22:20-25 KJV (20) And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: (21) And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. (22) And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. (23) And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father's house. (24) And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father's house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons. (25) In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the LORD hath spoken it.
The sins of the world was cut down off the cross and thrown away into the sea of forgetfulness. Christ has the key to the door of life, and no one can take away. Christ also holds the key to death. He is our judge. The hardest thing for people to grasp in a risen Lord and as we look at the process of believe the disciples and Mary go through in chapter 28 of Matthew we get a glimpse of grasping of truth.
Matthew 28:1-8 KJV (1) In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. (2) And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. (3) His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: (4) And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men. (5) And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. (6) He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. (7) And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you. (8) And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
Revelation 11:19 KJV (19) And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Revelations is a hard book to understand but the next chapter speaks of the woman and devil pursuing the woman across the desert. The woman is Israel who will give birth to the church, A symbol of Mary giving birth to Christ and Christ dying and rising to defeat the enemy the devil. Yet at this time the devil still has the power to torment the children of God. Yet God gave His children the power to tread on scorpions and crush the one that bruises their feet.
Revelation 12:1-17 KJV (1) And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: (2) And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. (3) And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. (4) And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. (5) And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. (6) And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days. (7) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, (8) And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. (9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (10) And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. (11) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (12) Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (13) And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child. (14) And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent. (15) And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood. (16) And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth. (17) And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Now in Matthew 28 you see the woman willing to go and tell the disciples and excited and fearful about all the seen and heard. Yet none had seen the risen Lord at this point, only angel had spoken to them. Now let us precede.
Matthew 28:9-17 KJV (9) And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. (10) Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me. (11) Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. (12) And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, (13) Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. (14) And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. (15) So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day. (16) Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. (17) And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
Women see Jesus and continue on their way to tell the disciples and disciples go to where Christ will ascend in a cloud into heaven. Matthew is the short version of these events, but there were more then 500 witness according to the scriptures of the risen Lord. Yet the Roman soldiers were paid to say it was lie and that Christ body was stolen.
There were those that doubt that Jesus arose from the grave, that still occurring today. There is a grave of a man name Jesus in Jerusalem with bones, that is not Christ. The tomb in which Jesus was laid would of been outside of Jerusalem and not within the city according to scripture. One decides what they believe and if evidence states that Christ was buried near where he was crucified, one knowing Jewish tradition though it was under Roman rule, Jesus would of been buried outside the city not inside the city. To many witness declare they seen the Lord, and to many after claim the same thing in visions as well as evidence of the Holy Spirit in their life. This is something the government would of wanted to hide to keep control of the people.
Jesus meet with His disciples before departing and said a few words to them of what they should do.
Matthew 28:18-20 KJV (18) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
What Jesus was requiring of His disciples He required of the Jews also before His coming. To teach other about Him, the Father and the Holy Spirit. To baptize is not just water baptism it is more then that it is teaching people all about who the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit is. Of course God does this to in our hearts and soul when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior, but man begins with education to understand basics of what God speaks to man’s heart about. It is a beginning for each believer and non believer.
This finishes this year long study through the book of Matthew, I hope you enjoyed looking and studying the prophesy of both Old and New Testament concerning Jesus and what God always taught. Christ is risen. Christ will return as promised in Acts chapter 1. Take time to study other gospels concerning the resurrection as well as other parables and works of Jesus. By doing so you will understand more of who He is. Taking Christ as Savior one has to believe in Him, believe He died for you and me because of our sin. It was nailed and removed from the cross and Christ arose in incorruptible body to bring about a new world order with Him upon His return. Are you ready for His return?
