The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
Lesson Sixty: by Christina Farris

The story of Christ in the garden is probably one of the most note parts before the crucifixion. It shows Christ humanity. The fact that Jesus went to a
solitary place to pray not just before His crucifixion, but many times in scriptures shows the individually of the Godhead bodily. It displays the conversation
between the Trinity of Godhead. We get a good picture of this also in the beginning as well as in the Psalms.

Genesis 1:26 KJV
(26)  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

God word uses the word us in the beginning speaking of the Godhead, one must remember the word God is Elohim which means gods, or more then one.
We know that God is one, but what we is hard to grasp is each part is the same. Each part of the Godhead bodily is exchangeable for the other. Meaning
The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit is exactly the same in nature. In Psalms we get a clearer picture of this.

Psalms 2:7-9 KJV
(7)  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
(8)  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
(9)  Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

Psalms 110:1 KJV
(1)  A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Let us back up to another time period for a moment as well.

Genesis 11:6-7 KJV
(6)  And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from
them, which they have imagined to do.
(7)  Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

Lord(Jehovah) is speaking and saying let us go and confound the languages. Something Godhead does together. The word us in Genesis one and Genesis
eleven passage are just to examples of not only communication but the working of togetherness and agreement of the Godhead bodily. When we get to the
garden of Gethsemane we see Jesus having the need to go and speak to His Father. The agreement between Son and Father of His Will to be done. Not
only to do the will of God the Father, but agreement to say despite what Christ was physically going to face, He would do it because of the agreement.
Christ is our intercessor, a go between tot he Father, yet God will is not going to be changed in our life. If we come to repentance Salvation will come and
if we trust and obey God will deliver us from our enemies, even if it is to be stoned like Stephen or crucified like Christ. The reason I used the example of
Stephen here is Christ we see God the Father turning away from His Son, but in the case of Stephen we see Christ waiting on Stephen to take him home.

Acts 7:56-60 KJV
(56)  And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.
(57)  Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,
(58)  And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
(59)  And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
(60)  And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Let us now go to the Garden of Gethsemane and read the passage looking at the human flesh nature of Christ, yet the conversation that was quite normal
for Jesus to have with His Father. Christ asking his disciples to pray and yet they fall asleep while praying, that is why it is so important for the Holy Spirit
intercession to the Godhead for us. That why Christ being the word of God interceding as well for us. Yet we speak directly to God the Father. Christ in
His prayer intercedes for His disciples, yet Christ needs no intercession, for God’s will, is going to be done. Yet Christ ask the disciples to pray that they
would what? That the disciples would not enter into temptation. Christ instruction was for them to pray not for Him, but for themselves. We to must pray
for ourselves as well as for others.

Matthew 26:36-43 KJV
(36)  Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
(37)  And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
(38)  Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
(39)  And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I
will, but as thou wilt.
(40)  And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
(41)  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
(42)  He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
(43)  And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

How often our own flesh gets in the way of what we want to do. If you ever waited in emergency room at a late hour of night, you know what is to be
stressed from a situation you can not control and yet maybe even to tired to keep your eyes open to pray. Even the extra cup of coffee just will not help
keep those eyes open, because it is decaf. Yet you can imagine, what it is like to be on the other side of this picture unless you been there. Paul would find
himself in prison many times as well as being stoned and beat more then once. Yet the anguish of His friends must of been great, those who knew not the
power of God or the ability to deliver.

Christ knowing the ability, because the ability was His to prevent His death, still said Father not my will but thine. He speaking of His human desire not to
suffer, yet He knew that when it was over He would be back on the throne in heaven with His Father. He seeing the need of the disciples to rest, goes
again and kneels alone and begins to pray for His disciples as well of all mankind.

Matthew 26:44 KJV
(44)  And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

In John the words of our Lord in His communication with the Father goes into more detail.

John 17:1-26 KJV
(1)  These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
(2)  As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
(3)  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
(4)  I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
(5)  And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
(6)  I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy
word.
(7)  Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
(8)  For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they
have believed that thou didst send me.
(9)  I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.
(10)  And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
(11)  And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou
hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
(12)  While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition;
that the scripture might be fulfilled.
(13)  And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
(14)  I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
(15)  I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
(16)  They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
(17)  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
(18)  As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
(19)  And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
(20)  Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
(21)  That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
(22)  And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
(23)  I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou
hast loved me.
(24)  Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou
lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
(25)  O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
(26)  And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

The hour has come for Jesus to be betrayed. Jesus woke His disciples to the event. The fulfillment of the prophesy of Judas betraying comes to pass.

Matthew 26:45-50 KJV
(45)  Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed
into the hands of sinners.
(46)  Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
(47)  And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders
of the people.
(48)  Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
(49)  And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
(50)  And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

Naturally instinct is to fight when you see someone falsely being arrested. Yet Christ uses the cutting off of ear as testimony of who He is to a soldier. He
heals His ear. Peter aggression towards the soldiers is not wanted by Christ and instead of arresting Peter, the act of Christ healing the soldier would leave
little prosecution for the soldier to use against Peter. Who they wanted was Jesus and Jesus they would take, with the authority God allowed them to have,
for Christ had the ability to call on the angels of heaven to deliver Him. He makes it clear God is allowing this act that is taking place.

Matthew 26:51-57 KJV
(51)  And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off
his ear.
(52)  Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
(53)  Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
(54)  But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
(55)  In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching
in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
(56)  But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
(57)  And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

What is important to understand is Christ laid down His life for us. God loved us to much He gave His only begotten Son. Keyword is gave. Our sins
nailed Jesus to cross, but our sins would never have done so if God had not allowed His Son  to redeem us. The crucifixion of the cross may of been down
physically by soldiers, and judgmentally by the Jewish religious leaders, but God allowed them to. It was part of His will that Christ would suffer and die
for all humanity. As we go to the cross, let us remember that simple fact is God allowed, it was His will Christ would die for our sins. Christ willingly gave
His life for us, yet He in His humanity want His cup removed, yet only if it was the Father’s will. Is what is happening God’s will, or man’s will? Man could
not of planned the events of and prophesy of Christ. That is something God did for us, so we would understand His will was for Christ to suffer for us. Let
us pick up our own cross and follow Jesus, allowing God will to intercede for us.
