The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Twenty-eight: by turtle
Last few lessons I skipped over prophesy that Christ spoke, yet it not forgotten. In fact the more you want to get away from judgmental words sometimes the more you need to hear them. Especially if it comes from God’s own word. They are a warning that can be changed through belief and receiving of the word just like in the days of Jonah. It one of those things that if you apply it to your heart and repent then God mercy is given. However if you ignore the truth of prophesy then judgment is given. Let us backtrack to Matthew 10:14-15.
Matthew 10:14-15 KJV (14) And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. (15) Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
Some people are not wiling to receive the word of God, in fact they will not allow you in their home. This is not a bad thing in today’s society in one since. I be honest someone coming knocking at your door could be a person meaning to rob you. However you are not to stop you from sharing the gospel with someone. There many doors and many avenues in today’s world in which to share the gospel of Christ. Whether it be in a person’s home, to on the street, store or mall. However those receiving you might not be your friend.
In the days of Sodom and Gomorrah they received the two strangers, but after getting them in the city they wish them harm. However Lot stood up for the two strangers, and his family was protected by God. Doing the right thing in the sight of God will allow God to protect you. However if Lot had been the enemy the story of Sodom and Gomorrah might of been different. However not in every situation does God protect and the reason why is it bears witness against the people. Christ death on the cross bares witness against all mankind and their desire to allow the devil to reign and not God. The next few verses I want to re- look at is in Matthew 11.
Matthew 11:21-24 KJV (21) Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. (22) But I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you. (23) And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (24) But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
The miracles done in the cities that Christ traveled in are mentioned here. However Christ traveled many places while in ministry. He was received in Bethsaida, because of the miracles. yet it is an area of Palestine. However there is something else to note Christ is speaking prophesy of passed concerning a generation passed as a warning if they did nto believe Him what would happen. Let read Isaiah prophesy.
Isaiah 23:1-18 KJV (1) The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. (2) Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished. (3) And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations. (4) Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins. (5) As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre. (6) Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle. (7) Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn. (8) Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth? (9) The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth. (10) Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength. (11) He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof. (12) And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest. (13) Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin. (14) Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste. (15) And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot. (16) Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered. (17) And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth. (18) And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.
I do not always expect you to understand all the scripture posted, however I expect if you take time to read it, what you will understand is the judgment of God on these regions during the time of Assyria. Christ was speaking of this time for a purpose as a warning if one would not repent, one would not believe then disaster would befall them like this time. Another example is Ezekiel.
Ezekiel 26:4-21 KJV (4) And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock. (5) It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD: and it shall become a spoil to the nations. (6) And her daughters which are in the field shall be slain by the sword; and they shall know that I am the LORD. (7) For thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will bring upon Tyrus Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, a king of kings, from the north, with horses, and with chariots, and with horsemen, and companies, and much people. (8) He shall slay with the sword thy daughters in the field: and he shall make a fort against thee, and cast a mount against thee, and lift up the buckler against thee. (9) And he shall set engines of war against thy walls, and with his axes he shall break down thy towers. (10) By reason of the abundance of his horses their dust shall cover thee: thy walls shall shake at the noise of the horsemen, and of the wheels, and of the chariots, when he shall enter into thy gates, as men enter into a city wherein is made a breach. (11) With the hoofs of his horses shall he tread down all thy streets: he shall slay thy people by the sword, and thy strong garrisons shall go down to the ground. (12) And they shall make a spoil of thy riches, and make a prey of thy merchandise: and they shall break down thy walls, and destroy thy pleasant houses: and they shall lay thy stones and thy timber and thy dust in the midst of the water. (13) And I will cause the noise of thy songs to cease; and the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard. (14) And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou shalt be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD. (15) Thus saith the Lord GOD to Tyrus; Shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee? (16) Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at thee. (17) And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that haunt it! (18) Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at thy departure. (19) For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee; (20) When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; (21) I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.
When a minister or evangelist is speaking or warning of destruction one should listen up. Look around and see is evil in the land. Some say no for there is no conviction of sin. However there are those that see abortion, sexual immorality, thieving, killing and more and understand that God wrath will come. Only course is repentance. Repentance to confess any of one own sin and then turn away from sin. Another thing is to realize God corrects His own. Yet God has often in Old Testament waved punishment when confessed to sin and other times inflicted punishment to say do not do that again. If we never experience the punishment of God we never will understand the wrath of God. God is not just a God of love but a God of judgment.
Now I am going to just point out a few verse of chapter 12 of Matthew.
Matthew 12:17-21 KJV (17) That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, (18) Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. (19) He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. (20) A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. (21) And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
The gentiles at the time of Christ would of understood several things concerning the prophesy in Isaiah. One of them would be about the judgment that befell God’s people for disobedience. It almost oxymoron/irony to the Jews. Here they claim they are God’s chosen people, yet are feeling the wrath of God. They obey the rules of God and yet face judgment. For this the gentiles cheer. Now let back up.
Matthew 12:1-8 KJV (1) At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were an hungred, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat. (2) But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day. (3) But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungred, and they that were with him; (4) How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests? (5) Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless? (6) But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple. (7) But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless. (8) For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Jesus is not mocking the Pharisees that mock Him, but just pointing out simple fact of truth. David and his men ate the shewbread. This bread was placed out weekly as a reminder of the twelve tribes of Israel and that God was the bread of life.
Leviticus 24:5-7 KJV (5) And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake. (6) And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD. (7) And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
1 Samuel 21:2-6 KJV (2) And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place. (3) Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present. (4) And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women. (5) And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel. (6) So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.
David men were not necessarily holy, because they were in hiding from the king. However the priest said have you all been with any women, almost cans see the humor in the question. For no doubt the priest knew David had no time for women at the present situation. Yet the Pharisees of Jesus day had problem with him eating simple ear of corn. Was the sin plucking the ear or eating it. Here the thing to note, is the problem that one sin fits another? No, but when things that are meant to honor God hinders a man from substance of life there is a problem. Men were ruling over the Sabbath as if they were God. Yet it was suppose to be God’s day. Man for so long as ruled over everyday of the week never giving God credit for any day. Never showing God respect except through ritual practices, that they themselves had broken on occasion. Next week we will continue with talking about breaking of the Sabbath verses living and doing the will of God.
