The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
Lesson Nineteen: by turtle

By no means did we finish the chapter 8 in Matthew last week, however there is a lot to discuss concerning whether what
Christ was teaching some new doctrine or not and of course so far Christ is preaching the same message that was taught in Old
Testament scripture. However when we get into different parts of chapter eight concerning follow Christ is the message the
same as Old Testament.

Matthew 8:18-22 KJV
(18)  Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side.
(19)  And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
(20)  And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to
lay his head.
(21)  And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
(22)  But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

When God commanded Abraham to leave the country he lived in to go to the promise land, he took his possessions. Israel
when they left Egypt left with their possessions and extra’s  God however sent his Son into the world without anything. He
came in the world like we all do. If our parents have money until we reach a certain age we are beneficiaries of the money or
means. Some continue to use family money way even after they leave home. However Christ would be born into a poor
family, no a family of wealth, his ministry was never based on wealth. He never had a church building, never owned a house.
He was homeless, with no where to go. Yet their were many open doors. Many places to preach and many seeking what Jesus
a poor man could give. However as believers do we have to live that way? What first did prophesy say concerning the Messiah
poverty.

Isaiah 53:2 KJV
(2)  For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and
when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

To understand what Christ was fully teaching here we have to examine other scripture in the New Testament.

2 Corinthians 8:9 KJV
(9)  For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye
through his poverty might be rich.

Philippians 2:6-8 KJV
(6)  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
(7)  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
(8)  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

To follow Christ is to become a servant of God. It is not about wealth, it not about being impoverished. It about obedience to
God. Christ gave up His wealth in heaven to walk a poor man. Yes through His obedience He would be given the throne seat
back.

Philippians 2:6-12 KJV
(6)  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
(7)  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
(8)  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
(9)  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
(10)  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
(11)  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(12)  Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Now let us look at Matthew beginning passage again for this scripture.

This is spiritual not necessarily physical. One needs to be willing to surrender what they have to follow God’s command. Jesus
steps off the throne becomes a human flesh, to fulfill God’s prophesy. The show survivor they give up what they have for 39
days to try and win a million dollars. However not all will win because they get kicked out or quit. However they endure
hardship of living on island without supplies. Now we all start somewhere in life. Whether with a silver spoon in our mouth or
not, however not all will receive the same end reward. Obedience to God has reward, however belief in Jesus is something we
have or have not. Many obey God but never believe in God. An atheist might live at peace and harmony with his neighbor, but
salvation comes through faith in Christ Jesus. Obedience to helping people is part of polite society. However polite society can
not save you. It is looking and saying I have good works what do you have. Abraham faith was demonstrated through his
actions through believing God. If we believe and obey God then His salvation is there. Christ obeyed God the Father in perfect
submission, yet if He had not He would of not been the Son of God, or heir to the throne. We all have the ability to be sons
and daughters of God through faith, but our actions toward belief speak who we are.

Jesus tells one to let the dead bury the dead and tells the first He has no place to rest, yet to follow Him. It is not that Christ did
not want them to have shelter or mourn the loss, but it was giving up the thing required by man, and following God. To obey
God is sometimes to do what is contrary to man.
