The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
Lesson Eight: by turtle

As we continue on the subject of prophecy let us remember prophesy is not just foretelling of events but also preaching. And
once it is also about preaching did what Christ taught line up with Old Testament scripture. The answer is of course yes, but
one should always be willing to prove the point. The sermon on the mount is a good place to do this. This is one of the longest
sermons in Matthew and in the four gospels that Jesus taught. One thing spoken in both Old and New Testament was the
subject of killing. One was not to murder. Any cult group, or occult group that says it okay to kill is lying. God never condone
killing in the since of murder. What about war? Will war is acting of killing but it is in self defense. We are not to go picking
fights, but if that fight comes to us we are to kick butt. However we have to follow the rules of our land on the subject as well.
There is self defense laws. Jesus taught to turn the other cheek, however what point does one stop being a door mat? Scripture
is the place to look. Let us look at New Testament at the sermon on the mount first.

Matthew 5:21-24 KJV
(21)  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the
judgment:
(22)  But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and
whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in
danger of hell fire.
(23)  Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
(24)  Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.

The first murder takes place in chapter four of Genesis. However Cain had counsel from the Lord. Cain was warned not to kill
his brother. Yet Cain went ahead and did so. He was the first to commit murder but not the last.

Genesis 4:6-16 KJV
(6)  And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
(7)  If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his
desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
(8)  And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his
brother, and slew him.
(9)  And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper?
(10)  And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.
(11)  And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand;
(12)  When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be
in the earth.
(13)  And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.
(14)  Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a
fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me.
(15)  And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the
LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.
(16)  And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

Cain was outcast from the Lord’s sight. This was before the blood covenant for sin. This was before the law of eye for eye
and a tooth for a tooth. However it never said what Adam and Eve’s reaction was. The second murder takes place the same
chapter over.

Genesis 4:23-24 KJV
(23)  And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I
have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.
(24)  If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

Lamech knew he would be punished for killing. He knew it was wrong. He had killed innocent blood with his own hands. Sin is
sin no matter what. Killing because one is hurt  However at the time of Noah get sin had covered the earth and God sent a
flood to destroy the sin on the earth. When Noah came out of the ark, God told Noah about killing.

Genesis 9:5-6 KJV
(5)  And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the
hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.
(6)  Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Man was created in God’s image and man and because of this anyone killing a man, his life would be required. Who would
require it. One God would require it and second man would execute it upon finding a killer guilty. Laws were put in place to
protect the innocent.

Exodus 21:12-15 KJV
(12)  He that smiteth a man, so that he die, shall be surely put to death.
(13)  And if a man lie not in wait, but God deliver him into his hand; then I will appoint thee a place whither he shall flee.
(14)  But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that
he may die.
(15)  And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.

Numbers 35:11-12 KJV
(11)  Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at
unawares.
(12)  And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the
congregation in judgment.

Numbers 35:15-34 KJV
(15)  These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them:
that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.
(16)  And if he smite him with an instrument of iron, so that he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.
(17)  And if he smite him with throwing a stone, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely
be put to death.
(18)  Or if he smite him with an hand weapon of wood, wherewith he may die, and he die, he is a murderer: the murderer shall
surely be put to death.
(19)  The revenger of blood himself shall slay the murderer: when he meeteth him, he shall slay him.
(20)  But if he thrust him of hatred, or hurl at him by laying of wait, that he die;
(21)  Or in enmity smite him with his hand, that he die: he that smote him shall surely be put to death; for he is a murderer: the
revenger of blood shall slay the murderer, when he meeteth him.
(22)  But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or have cast upon him any thing without laying of wait,
(23)  Or with any stone, wherewith a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, that he die, and was not his enemy,
neither sought his harm:
(24)  Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments:
(25)  And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore
him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed
with the holy oil.
(26)  But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled;
(27)  And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer;
he shall not be guilty of blood:
(28)  Because he should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high
priest the slayer shall return into the land of his possession.
(29)  So these things shall be for a statute of judgment unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
(30)  Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify
against any person to cause him to die.
(31)  Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to
death.
(32)  And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the
land, until the death of the priest.
(33)  So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood
that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.
(34)  Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.

Also if innocent blood was shed there was sacrifice for the nation of Israel that was performed. Whether they shed the blood or
someone else.

Deuteronomy 21:6-10 KJV
(6)  And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in
the valley:
(7)  And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.
(8)  Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of
Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.
(9)  So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of
the LORD.
(10)  When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and
thou hast taken them captive,

God demanded protection of innocent who were accused of murdering someone, has well as protecting a man until brought to
trial who had killed someone. However Jesus in his sermon on the mount goes one step further and tells a person who thinks
about killing is a murder. Is it just a warning? Or was Jesus speaking that it was sin to want to kill someone. To think in a
person heart to commit murder. Most military people perhaps would say they have at least thought about it if they have not
done it. How many people in the world have not thought those things in their heart. The point is God warned Cain before he
sinned and he sinned. God warned us not to even think about it, why because one might act on it. We are not to dwell on
revenge but allow God to do the revenging.

However as we see in passage above war or self defense was okay and I am adding this self defense to the point of killing only
if there is no other way to take care of the problem. For example someone choking you and you got a cast iron skillet near by
hit the guy over the head. His intent is to kill you. Do not be dumb and allow someone to cause you harm that can lead to
death.

God has mercy on all of us that repents of sin, even sin in our heart. However God warns of calling someone dumb or empty
headed. The word Raca means empty headed.

Matthew 5:22-26 KJV
(22)  But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and
whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in
danger of hell fire.
(23)  Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
(24)  Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
(25)  Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the
judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
(26)  Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.

If you have a problem with your brother, neighbor, friend you need to talk it over with them and try and make amends.
However sometimes this is impossible. Sometimes you have to leave it at the altar with God. In other words if it is something
that can not be repaired best to leave it alone and repent. Sometimes things can not be repaired by simple words. When this
happens God does understand. However if at all possible make amends of the situation and then come to the altar. Seek God in
all matters. His council and wisdom.
