The Prophecy Revealed In Matthew
|
Lesson 63: by turtle
I seriously doubt the average person can even understand what it is like to stand before the king of the land in judgment say a word to defend oneself. Our natural instinct would be to try to get out of a death sentence and not go willing to it, yet this is what Jesus would do. Those wanting Him dead was willing to let a dangerous man go free all for the sake of seeing this one innocent man dead, because He spoke out against the religious leaders of His day. Because He spoke of a kingdom to come. Jesus was His name. An innocent man who spoke of spiritual life and spiritual kingdom in opposition to those in leadership. A man that never raised a hand to hurt anyone, but raised it to heal. Yet a man convicted of theft, murder and accused of a revolt/insurrection of his time and day was offer to be free instead of Christ. The Jewish custom at Passover was for one prisoner to go free. Instead of killing one already that had committed murder, they want the rebel to go free in exchange to having Christ crucified. Let us look at two gospels on this fact as well as Old Testament.
Isaiah 53:6-9 KJV (6) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. (7) He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. (8) He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. (9) And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Mark 15:6-11 KJV (6) Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired. (7) And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection. (8) And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them. (9) But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews? (10) For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy. (11) But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.
Matthew 27:15-26 KJV (15) Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would. (16) And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas. (17) Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? (18) For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. (19) When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him. (20) But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. (21) The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas. (22) Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. (23) And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. (24) When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. (25) Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children. (26) Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
Though all our sins of the whole world was paid at the cross, both Jew and Gentile were involved in his crucifixion. Pilot wish because of his wife warning to be rid of guilt of the innocent blood that would be shed washed his hands before Jews in the custom of the Jewish law concerning innocent blood. Often our political leaders do things in accordance to our customs, yet fail to understand we also know their customs. Yet it show solidarity between to opposing groups often when this is done, but in this case it shows division between Pilot and the people. He showing his disagreement of what is fixing to happen. He is going to allow what he disagree with to happen.
It is a sad day when politicians have to go against their own convictions in a matter, unless it is for good justice. Not always is our leaders correct. Yet Pilot would allow innocent blood to be shed, because the people desired it. Jews willing said let it be on their heads for what was going to take place. Yet though it be of man’s way it was not necessarily God’s way, for God makes it clear He allowed His Son to die for us and that we all are guilty of sin and our sin is what brought Christ to have to die for us.
Deuteronomy 21:6-9 KJV (6) And all the elders of that city, that are next unto the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer that is beheaded in the valley: (7) And they shall answer and say, Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it. (8) Be merciful, O LORD, unto thy people Israel, whom thou hast redeemed, and lay not innocent blood unto thy people of Israel's charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them. (9) So shalt thou put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when thou shalt do that which is right in the sight of the LORD.
Romans 5:5-21 KJV (5) And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (6) For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. (7) For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. (8) But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (9) Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. (10) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. (11) And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. (12) Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (13) (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. (14) Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. (15) But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. (16) And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. (17) For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) (18) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. (19) For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. (20) Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: (21) That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 3:22-31 KJV (22) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: (23) For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (24) Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: (25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (26) To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. (27) Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. (28) Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. (29) Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: (30) Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. (31) Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.
Righteousness of man has nothing to do with human law, but God’s law. The law of God that was even before the time of the Mosaic law. Killing of innocent blood was sin. Cain shed innocent blood of his brother, and landed in exile from God, but this death of innocent man would redeem us. The first was brought by Adam and the redemption came through one man paying the price for all our sins.
God redemption plan is far beyond our comprehension. God allowing innocent blood to pay the price for our sins is beyond our understanding of justice. Yet God’s love toward us while we were yet sinners. There was nothing we could do to atone for our own sin, for we continue to make errors. God knew this. Knew we were unable to live perfectly so He allowed His Son to pay our price for our sin. Yet it is a price we must receive to inherit it.
If you thinking your sin had nothing to do with the cross think again. Our sin came from the first sinner Adam, and our forgiveness came from the second Adam who name was Jesus. By Jewish prophesy this would happen, and by God divine grace it did happen according to His words spoken to religious leaders.
John 11:49-52 KJV (49) And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all, (50) Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not. (51) And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; (52) And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
As we look to the cross one might ask, if Christ knew He would die, why not prevent it, because it was the will of the one that sent Him. God sent Jesus to die for our sins according to scripture. Will receive Christ death as payment for your sin. There is nothing you can do to change what God has already done for you. Accept Him today.
John 3:15-18 KJV (15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
1 Peter 1:18-21 KJV (18) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; (19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: (20) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, (21) Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
The grave would not hold Christ body down, He would raise again, He could not be destroyed. His death was not in vain, for He would live again, we to can live again if we will only believe and receive Him as payment for our sins. It is your choice today, Make it today do not hold off. Just simple ask Jesus into your heart and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. Tell God you receive His salvation plan for your life. It is that simple. Speak to him.
